6 Ways To Detox And Cleanse Your Social Media Usage

You know there’s at least a couple people that come to mind immediately when you think of doing this. For me, it’s usually some dude that not-so-subtly tries to hit on me on various social media channels. This is creepy and weird and, yes, you better believe I deleted that guy. This might be one of my best pieces of advice but you DO NOT need that kind of negativity staring at you every single day from your phone .

However, I am going to tell you that it is possible, that many people have done it and that it is almost universally regarded as a positive thing by those who have successfully detoxed. I love blogs and as a sahm the internet definitely makes me feel less lonely. That said, the benefits of Being offline are even greater. If you feel compelled to take photos, they will be for your own enjoyment and remembrance, rather than for other people to see. Like me, you may just find that you don’t even feel the need to pull out your phone to take photos.

For example, having a blog, I cannot quit social media because it is a major part of my business. However, it is my responsibility to spread love, inspiration, and positivity to my community. While taking a break cold turkey from social media is sometimes needed, I am a firm believer that life is more of a balance. In my own opinion, I believe the best strategy is to find a balance between life and social media by controlling what you see and when you see it. While most of us might not have a chronic social media addiction, but we cannot fail to admit that it controls our day-to-day lives. Whether you are a content creator or a content consumer, most people are highly addicted to social media in this day and age.

You should also not underestimate just how difficult it will be at times. I do still need my personal Facebook page activated in order to keep my Facebook business page functioning. So, I still have messenger and my personal page still technically exists. I no longer have my Facebook app on my phone and therefore I am not even tempted to stray. And then there is the social media impact on politics. I have friends from all sides of the political spectrum and to watch them spew hate toward one another over a lot of exaggerated or false narratives was just too much for me.

You see what other people are doing, where they’re going, and wonder why you weren’t invited. If you obsess over old posts and pictures of you and your ex, it’ll just cause you pain and won’t help you move on with your life. Social media also exposes anxiety-inducing headlines that leave you feeling stressed. Once your detox begins, you will quickly realize just how much time you were spending on these sites.

When I stop getting on social media I realize all this time I had and surprisingly I didn’t know what to do with it. There’s so much going on outside of the phone than checking social media.
